In Italy, a warning sign is required on a bicycle carrier or in the case of an overhanging load. Show more
Product details
A warning sign is mandatory when the load protrudes beyond the rear of the vehicle and is used to mark overhanging loads and cargo, for example bicycle carriers, surfboards, etc.
The rear‑overhanging load must be marked with a 50 x 50 cm reflective panel with red and white diagonal stripes (5 red stripes and 4 white stripes). This panel is specific to Italy. Panels recognized in the EU and in Spain are not valid in Italy.
This rule also applies to cars and motorhomes transporting bicycles at the rear. An overhanging load is permitted only at the rear and must not exceed 30% of the vehicle’s length.
The regulation also applies if you are only passing through the country and Italy is not your final destination.
The obligation to use a warning panel also applies to bicycle carriers with rear and brake lights, as the bicycle carrier exceeds the total vehicle length stated in the vehicle registration document.
